| There is one word that can sum up a breeder. It is a word that is used with reverence, a word that is paramount in the oath that is taken when one joins a parent club, or a regional club. It is a word that is meant to signify an alliance to the welfare of our breed and how we conduct ourselves as guardians of the Breed we love, the Yorkshire Terrier. That word is ETHICS. This world of professional dog breeders is made up of many different people from all walks of life. Some have the best of intentions and sacrifice of their time, money and efforts to truly be guardians. There are others, that under the cloak of respectability say all the right things, and are among the first to cry foul on others and their choices. But behind closed doors, do NOT conduct themselves in a manner that conforms to the standards of the parent club. There are those who have terrible kennel conditions, breed indiscriminately, and their precious dogs are nothing more than stock ~ a means to an end. To believe that a person will automatically have ethics by merely signing a document is living in a fools paradise. Ethics come from the moral fiber of the man. It is an inherent belief that we must carry in our hearts and actions EVERY DAY~ agreeing to sign a piece of paper is no guarantee to an organization that all members will from that day forward conduct themselves in a manner that would cast honor on all. ~ Agendas are all different~ some do it for the monetary gain, others to get to the top in national standings, to be top breeder, to become a judge~ and others do it for the love of the breed. It is those who do it for the love of the breed that we believe are the ones that we wish to look up too. May we never get so caught up in self importance or greed, that we lose sight of our true purpose ~ our dogs. May we always be true to ourselves, and our personal beliefs, and care for our dogs and family in a way that exemplifies the true meaning of the word ~ Ethics ~. ANONYMOUS |
