In memory of our dear, sweet friend
Clyde "Hoot" Gibson
Clyde touched the lives of many people... The endless line at his viewing and at his funeral was a
testament to that.  He always had time for someone in need, a kind word and a gentle hug.  He looked just
like Wilfred Brimly and sounded like him too!!  He was a outspoken man, full of life and never hesitated to
tell you how it was, or where to go!  All the while he would smirk and you knew that under that gruff
exterior he really cared for and loved you.

Clyde had a slip and fall accident and suffered a traumatic head injury while doing what he loved best...
helping someone.  He was helping his neighbor dig out from our 2 major snow storms in February.

Clyde was a
WELL renowned Secret Service Officer, loved by many and it is said to this day that he
was a legend in his own time!!   To this day there are stories of Clyde even though he retired years ago!
He was honored February 25th by having his peers stand guard over him as he laid in repose.  He served
Presidents from Kennedy/LBJ through Ronald Reagan,  his favorite President to serve... They were
kindred spirits.

Some old timers might remember him as he was in every newspaper in the country actually the world for
that matter when a farmer/protester threw a long haired horned goat over the fence at the White House.
Everyone started running but not Clyde.  He handed his service revolver to a fellow officer and took off his
gun belt and wrangled that goat into submission.  He wanted to save that goat from a certain death... He
brought him home to have as a pet!  They named him Snowball as Clyde was hit in the face with a
snowball thrown by a protester that day as he lugged the goat through the White House grounds.  Here is
the link to the pictures...

Ironically this photo was taken on the same date as Clyde's viewing...

Clyde was a man that served his community well.  He was known and loved by many and he was
affectionately called the "unofficial" mayor of Mt. Airy Maryland.  The many people who eulogized him
said he left doing what he did best and that was helping others.  Everyone who's lives he touched will
remember him as a man of honor and a man who every young man should emulate.

On February 25th he was laid to rest, leaving many to morn his passing.  I am sure there will be just as
many that will be glad to see him when he gets to heaven!!!   Even though he has passed from our world we
will remember him with all the love and fondness our hearts can hold.

I am eternally grateful that he came into my life.  I celebrate his death knowing that my good friend is in
the hands of our Lord above.  We will meet again one day and it will be a good time that's for sure!!!

Through our tears today we will let him go in peace... He will NEVER be so far away that his presence..
His MIGHTY and STRONG presence will be felt.  Clyde has left footprints on our hearts!!!
This is a saying that Amy and Helen and Clyde Jr had at the viewing...
TO ALL OF MY LOVED ONES AND FRIENDS

Be happy for me as I ask you all to be strong, as I have departed to be in his arms.
Try to understand this is his special way but now I have no more pain because He has made it OK.
I know that I’ll be missed as I say goodbye, but please, family and friends, don’t worry or cry
Because now I am safe, and in a special place, when you all think of me, keep a smile on your face.
You have to be strong, please do it for me I’m in the safest place that anyone could be.
I had enjoyed my life, as you all should know I was next in line; it was my time to go.
My family and my friends, may you please be strong and don’t you all worry,
Just be happy for me.
Again I say be strong at least try your best I’d take you all with me, but now I must rest.
I LOVE ALL OF YOU

We will never forget the day we met Clyde for the first time.
We attended a celebration for Amy graduating from college.
Amy became part of our family when she went to college with
our daughter and we adopted her as our "yankee" daughter.

She had told us all about her dad and mom, so we were so
excited to get to meet them. Clyde walked in the room when
we arrived, had a suit on, cowboy boots, and huge belt buckle!
Of course, Clyde's first words out of this mouth were
funny....saying something about our southern accent!

We immediately felt like we had known him forever. He was
happy, he was funny, and he was full of personality! We have
been blessed over the last 10 years to spend time with Clyde
and Helen, getting to know Clyde as a very spunky man that
always made us laugh and always made us feel like we were
part of his family.

There was never a time that we saw him that he always
thanked us for being so good to his daughter. Clyde was always
there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed help! He
was a very strong man, yet so gentle, he would always speak
what he thought and he was always straight up with letting you
know how he felt, he had a heart of gold, he was funny, he was
such a unique man! He will always hold a special place in our
hearts!

He had such a tender heart, we were blessed to see his
happiness, his tears, his jokes, his love of his country, family,
and those that needed help! His memory will be with us
forever! Clyde you were always be with us in spirit, we will
think of you at each gathering we have from now on. I know
heaven is a better place because of you.....you are now walking
on streets of gold !
We will never forget you and will always love YOU!
